Medicaid may cover:
Speech and language evaluations
Speech and language therapy
Coverage depends on medical necessity and your child’s specific plan.
Some services — such as academic-only or dyslexia-only evaluations — may not be covered.
We will always tell you in advance if a service is not covered.

Yes. A physician’s order is required.
Iowa Medicaid requires a current doctor’s order for:
Evaluations
Therapy services
Orders are usually valid for 12 months.
Some plans require updates every 6 months.
If an order expires, Medicaid cannot pay for services.

Often, yes. Approval requirements depend on your plan.
Some plans require approval for evaluations
Most plans require approval for ongoing therapy
Approvals are given for a set number of visits or time period
We submit all approval requests on your behalf.
Scheduling may depend on when approval is granted.

For Evaluations: Failure to attend a scheduled evaluation appointment without notice (NO SHOW) will not be tolerated. Missed evaluation appointments will not be rescheduled.
For Ongoing Services: N0 SHOWS will not be tolerated. A client will be transitioned to a FLEX scheduling status.

Please let us know right away if:
Medicaid coverage changes or ends
Your plan changes
You receive a new Medicaid ID number
If coverage is inactive on the date of service, sessions will be billed at the private-pay rate.

Medicaid is the payer of last resort
Private insurance is billed first
Medicaid is billed after primary insurance
Please provide all insurance cards to avoid delays.
